Cruisy Mettams to Sorrento. Didnt think there would be enough wind but it was surprisingly nice. 5.8 Ezzy SE, 79L Kombat. Slow but fun.
Got to Pt Walter late (4PM) after family lunch. Thought maybe the rack of lamb and cheesecake will work like a weight vest. But it didnt, after first hour and a little regurgitate I started to feel OK.
Saw Chris Porter with a broken boom, he was leaving as I arrived. Having trouble getting upwind on the CA, probably just technique.
CA Sp53, choco 27 weedy, Koncept 5.8 – new GT31 as the old one died yesterday.
By the end of the session was getting the hang of carving the CA, might try moving the footstraps (they are in the back position) and see if that helps with getting upwind.
got 2 second 34.183 [PB] and 5×10 sec 32.745 [PB] so the new board is definitely going to make the difference.
GPS seems to have died – just pulled it apart and got it working, but as soon as I put it all back together I got “firmware error” and then it turned on/off – now dead again. Oh well these things happen.

Went to Mandurah (HArdies) expecting a downwind marathon, got an across the wind 24 Km (4 legs) race. Still fun and no complaints – “whinge whinge – downwind would have been so good etc…”
Gav was these but didnt enjoy it I think, not sure why not but maybe not enough power for crap light wind.
BUT I used brand new second hand CA speed 53 -WOW – excellent “Im in love” was the summation – just so good all I need is some wind now. It wasnt the appropriate board for the day (allthough CL used his) but it was FAST – so some wind and look out – I might be competitive (time will tell).
Anyway was a good day out. Took all my junk and used Minerals 6.6 and mast. All my stuff: sonic, sails, masts etc… all sitting on grass and then back in car.
Nice sail for 5.8 those rigging 5.0 a bit light at the end. Ball party on at Metts, strong smell of sheep ship not connected to ball I think. Nice cruise – very short.
4.2 again but today the wind was PERFECT for that size. Great fun sail, crowds and swell gone (still a bit of swell).
Closer to 20 knots than 15 most of the time today, peek 24. The big difference being it was controlled !
Extreme day, Gale warning 25-35 Knots. 4.2 sail too big almost all of the time. Big swell as well. Then it picked up a bit. Heaps of surfers out at Watermans and lots of sailors at Mettams.
Steve – the speed across the wind “most” of the time was around 15 Knots. Peak was 22 and 500 metres was peak at about 17. Sailing with the brakes on !
Wow lookingback that was the epic day, a real one. Big swell and huge wind. Took several goes to get out at Metts (just the white water and faces pushing back) but the power in the wind made it not so hard to get out.
Watermans was hard due mainly to the stand up surfer crowd who had the whole bay covered. Tricky to find a gap, in the end just sailed the line and they paddled out of the way.
BIG ! Seriously thinking I need a 3.9
